Protein bread is worth trying and will still need pairing, however, if you struggle to tolerate these then move on to better alternatives that are mentioned above. This process lowers the levels of phytic acid, which makes digesting the bread and the gut’s absorption of minerals, such as iron and calcium, much easier. I have found that Warburtons small wholemeal loaf (2 slices) raises my BG just one number provided it is well spread with butter, despite it having 9g of carb in each slice. per slice which is in fact more than the small Warbrutons Wholemeal loaf which makes the Hovis one no better for carb content as it actually has more in it.
