Screen protection has long been (and likely will continue to be) a controversial subject in online discussion forums and social media groups for resin 3D printer owners. While some believe it to be crucial, others are not as bothered. After much faffing about, the prints finally came out perfect. The left side is the Mars 2 Pro with a layer height of 0.05. Quality of the Elegoo Mars 3 (Pictures of 3D printed miniatures) If you are familiar with Elegoo’s previous offerings, you may recall that the Elegoo Mars 3 included a one year subscription of Chitubox Pro. Ironically, the Pro version of the printer doesn’t include this, so we’ll be covering Chitubox Basic. I have not experienced any wobbling that would concern me in any way with the Mars 3. But yeah, I did not expect that to be the case, since it is a small well built printer. Slicing with a resin printer is quite a bit different than slicing with a traditional FDM printer. Since the model is printed upside down and is using liquid resin, there are additional things you need to take into account such as resin drainage, the weight of the item you are printing so it doesn’t fall off the build plate, and even where the supports attach so that when they are removed, you don’t remove any delicate details. But the Mars 3’s support the option of using “Two Stage Motion Control” (TSMC). This means you can set a slow setting for one part of the Lift Speed and Retract Speed and a faster speed for the later part of the movement, where slow movement is less critical. All you need to know is that you are getting the best of both worlds: conservative/slow settings without sacrificing that much speed of print. I love it!

The Elegoo Mars 3 Pro is a smallish resin 3D printer from Elegoo. It follows the success of the Elegoo Mars 1 and Mars 2. Elegoo is a very reputable firm in the resin 3D printing space, and the Mars 2 Pro and Mars 3 are often recommended printers for beginners – whether that is for printing miniatures or other small things where details are important.Elegoo says that the light homogeneity is 92% as opposed to the previous Mars 3’s 90%. Regardless of where you place your prints on the build platform, as a user, you expect the same outcomes. The homogeneity of light transmittance and, consequently, the surface smoothness and print quality throughout the print area, ought to only be improved by this new set. Including an activated carbon filter is a hallmark of Elegoo’s Pro versions. The USB-powered charcoal filter first appeared on the Mars 2 Pro, and it has since appeared on the Saturn S (which may easily be labeled Saturn Pro) and now the Mars 3 Pro. The Elegoo Mars 3 Pro includes a single demo model on the USB thumb drive; a pair of rooks with the Elegoo logo printed on them. This is the same demo model that Elegoo includes with the Mars 2 Pro, Saturn, and other resin 3D printers. In fact, the text on the rook reads “Elegoo Mars 3”, indicating that this may even be the same model included on the previous generation Mars 3 printer. Printing the included Demo model
To get your model prepared, you will usually want to place the model at an angle. Placing models at an angle makes it easier to remove them from the build platform without damaging them in the process. It also gives more surface area for supports to hold on so the model is less likely to fall during printing. For the Mars 3 Pro, I knew I would need to scale the model down somewhat and I wanted to get the largest size that would print comfortably, so I ended printing this at a 30 degree angle scaled to 80%. To test printing a larger model, I decided to go with a model of the Filleneum Malcon, which is not to be confused with the Millennium Falcon, because the dimensions fit well in this printer and I wanted to see how the details came out. Chitubox has a nice feature that allows you to hollow out the model. It also has a feature to allow you to add drain holes to assist with rinsing out any excess resin from inside. However, for this model I decided to forego the drain holes, so there is likely some uncured resin hiding inside of my print.
