About this deal

The 702’s 2kHz bump gives it much-needed energy and the treble sounds crisp and fantastic without overdoing it. Some of the ‘harshness’ in the treble is lowered and you don’t get the sense of ‘hyper detail’ any more. It still has retained the original character but the ‘piercing’ is gone. It is slightly more obvious that the treble isn’t really that resolving and smooth though but more pleasant to me than when in original form. The increased upper treble (clarity is not affected, it resides lower in the frequency band) can be lowered quite simply.

My Top 2 choices are the K702, then the K712, followed by the K612, K701, and then Q701. I really don’t see a need to link all of them, so I will link the first 2 instead. Nice leather and metal accents. The pads are velours and very comfortable. Seems to be similar material as used on the K240 velours pads. I would say most certainly yes. All 5 of these headphones have a 62 Ohm impedance but are incredibly inefficient at around 84/88/91dB/mW.In this article, I will primarily be comparing 3 headphones that I have here currently (612, 712, 702), and also throwing in the K701/Q701 comparison. Super-comfortable fully adjustable earpads are held securely in place with a soft leather headband and because the K712 PRO only weigh just over half a pound, you're sure to have an extremely comfortable experience wearing them, just remember to take them off! Key Features: Comfort: I’d say pretty comfortable after few weeks. 612pro doesn't have much clamping force. Velour pads can be little hard at first, but after few weeks it will become soft, so have little patience in first few weeks. I almost never find myself wanting to listen to it (outside of doing this A/B/C), and do plan to either give it away or sell it. I wouldn’t get too caught up in the discrepancies here as the bass on each is fairly similar at the end of the day.

Children of Bodom - Downfall [24/192 FLAC]: Vocals sounded joyful, not ear piercing. Detailing is good and there is enough ''dark'' sounding for the genre while guitars sounded bright like the vocal. Keyboard is detailed, you can hear instruments clearly on vocal parts. But vocals are not significant enough, felt a little bit ''behind''. Bass is better than thrash here. Neutral side. There’s nothing about the 712 that warrants the price over the 702 – i.e. it doesn’t inherently do anything better.

Below the CSD of the ‘felt treated’ K612. The 2-3kHz resonance is much smaller and resonance around 12kHz is almost completely removed. Mids: In one word: linear. They are linear across the board, without being glarey in the upper mid range like the Q701s and K702s are. Because of this, they are very easy to listen to. There is a smooth mid range without being dipped to sound tolerable, like on Beyerdynamic DT990s. I have absolutely no complaints with the K612 mids. They are pretty much perfect for me in this regard. They have that characteristic AKG house sound for musicality, so you aren't missing anything there. The mids really don't make any compromises to be easy to listen to. They aren't rolled off, they aren't dipped, and they aren't veiled like with some Sennheisers. About your specific headphones you mention. I have two units of K702, and currently they're my joint favourite headphone with my Sennheiser HD560s. K702 has a really quite unique soundstage that is wide & expansive with some very impressive overall detail/resolution (all my experiences I'm talking about are when EQ'd to the Harman Curve). My HD560s has a narrower soundstage, but it's very accurate positionally within that less expansive soundstage.......the bass is also very very good in the HD560s. So they're my two favourite headphones out of the various headphones you see listed in my sig........you can see there's still differences between headphones when EQ'd to the same Target Curve. The ‘sharp’ and detailed but otherwise neutral tonal character is visible. Also the resonance are visible. Even though the horizontal part is somewhat sloping the bass extension is very good. Just not at the desired level.

Bass: Bass when the headphone has good synergy is very textured and detailed, extends unusually deep for an open headphone and has a large and powerful presence with plenty of impact. Midrange: The midrange on this headphone is what some may consider forward, it's delicate, precise, has good dynamics, and just sounds very natural and organic. It's just beautiful sounding. The K702 also has a tad more extension than the 701, but it’s very, very close. Again, DON’T OVERTHINK IT!

In reality, each of these needs a bit of power to get pumping, but seriously, don’t be like those forum snobs over the years with the wild and unsubstantiated “THEY SO POWER HANGRY LOLZ” K-612 sounds absolutely incredible. Just as good as M-50 in response, even in bass range, but with slightly different scene. Really no complaints here whatsoever. is not a basshead can by any means, but this is one of my top recommendations for EDM and many modern bass heavy genres, because this can render deepest low notes with exceptional texture. If you are used to heavy boomy, untextured bass presentations, 612pro will surely show you what you have been missing all these years, finally you can reinvent yourself as a real basshead who admires deep textured bass presentations. 612pro is surely is a fantastic option for vocals too. Vocals sounds very natural due to excellent neutrality of the mids, instrument timbre is very lifelike, very transparent, vocals can be upfront and can be very intimate sometimes. To me, this is a true all-rounder which can perform well in almost all the genres. soundstage is just perfect for my preference, it's not too huge or too airy, and imaging is exceptional for a medium sized soundstage, and can be a great gaming headphone too, if you are into competitive gaming. The plot below (right channel only) shows how the sound changes when it is fed from a 0 Ω amplifier and a 120 Ω output R amplifier.
