About this deal

Some products may be delivered straight to your door from one of our suppliers and these products will be labelled within the product description. But some garages can be quite spacious. In which case, you might need a garage alarm with multiple sensors. Are the sensor and the siren separate or part of the same unit? And besides, (as we'll see) they're so easy to set up and some of them are so cheap these days, that there's no reason not to give them a go. How to choose a shed or garage alarm system

There are also "pet friendly" PIR alarms. These may be Quad versions with 4 sensors, but also reduced sensitivity. So the lower body heat of dogs and cats etc won't set them off. Again these are less common. 4. What about a combination of different sensors? This is another feature that can help improve the ‘surprise’ of an alarm, and deter intruders. Some alarms emit a small beep when they have detected motion. On a normal day, this will help you remember to turn off the alarm; however, it also serves to give intruders warning about the presence of an alarm. This is something you may wish to avoid. It’s a shame that we are searching for the best shed alarms but I’m afraid thats the reality of the times we find ourselves in. You’re probably just securing a cordless lawn mower, a hedge trimmer, and your grass trimmers as well as a whole host of tools. In a perfect world we wouldn’t need a shed alarm but seeing as we do I have put together a list of the best shed alarms based on ability to detect an intruder, how well the batteries last, the noise output, and from my personal perspective, a shed alarm should not throw out false positives. The last thing you want is to wake up in the middle of the night because the cat set the shed alarm off! What is a shed alarm? Motion detectors and PIRs are great in that they can cover a big area, including multiple doors and windows, but it’s often hard to get the sensitivity right. If they’re too sensitive, they will activate when something passes by the shed window. If they’re not sensitive enough, they will only detect intruders when they’re nearly close enough to pull the alarm off the wall. The best motion detector systems get the balance right, and will even include ‘pet-safe’ technology so that a dog or cat won’t trigger the alarm, should one get into your shed or garage. These are sometimes called Quad PIR alarms (because they take four readings). However, they're more expensive and not so common in alarm systems that are suitable for sheds and garages. I mentioned motion sensors being triggered by animals in the section above this one, as I have been through the false alarms caused by them. At first, I thought it was because my alarm was too sensitive, so I bought a new one that had more control over the sensitivity and this helped to lower the number of times I jumped out of bed to defend my lawnmower. The shed alarm has a scanning range of 110 degrees and a loud siren of 105 db – to alert the owner in case of any unusual activity. Only someone with the remote control can deactivate the alarm. Some alarms come with two remote controls, whilst others only provide one. What I like about this alarm is that it is so easy to set up. There are no wires or anything like that, you simply pop the batteries in, and then use some double-sided tape to fix the device in place. It only takes a few moments to complete the whole installation, and then you’re ready to get on with your day.

It doesn’t need to be armed all the time, but can be turned on simply by pressing the number four on the keypad. This makes it easy to turn on at night or whenever required. Dialler alarms will also call a phone number when the alarm is triggered, to let you know that something’s up. You can usually adjust the sensitiveness to avoid bad weather or animals setting the alarm off unnecessarily. But that may take some trial and error. And you obviously don't want to make it too insensitive, as that could result in an undetected break in!Most batteries will only last 12 months, which is not long. So make sure whichever device you choose has some way of notifying you that the batteries are low! What's the range of the shed alarm's movement sensor? A very loud one!? Well yes, you'd usually want a very loud noise to alert yourself, your neighbors and scare the hell out of the thief. Key specs – Zone control: Yes; P hone call alerts: Yes; B attery-powered or wired: Wired panel, wireless sensors; V olume level: 100dB So, while for sure: not every neighbor will come running when an alarm goes off, the noise itself will be enough to scare off many thieves. And if it alerts you too, you cando something about it!

Motion detectors, sometimes called Passive Infrared Sensors (or PIRs), detect the changes in infrared energy that occur when a warm body passes within range of the sensor.

To activate, or ‘arm’, these alarms, you often simply press a number on the keypad. You then have time to exit before the alarm arms itself. To deactivate these alarms, you need to enter the code within a set period of time (otherwise the alarm will start sounding).
