About this deal

All in all, the improvements made to the design are positive ones. The change from plastic to a rubber strap, however, does mean it’s the most comfortable to wear to bed and can get a little sweaty. The extra bulk means it’s not as sleek as the first Runner either. edit: I lost a fair amount of weight while marathon training and I have thin wrists. In the winter when there’s less blood flow, I found it tough to get the HRM to work consistently. In warmer months it was fine. If you have a small wrist, there is a small wrist band option. It helps being able to make it a little tighter in cold weather. The prior strap I had was on the tightest setting. The GPS unitpretty much matches the performance of the one in my S4 Mini phone. Familiar runs around the 9 mile mark match up within a few metres, which means it’s plenty accurate enough (a marathon race using the phone was bang on 26.2 miles). Data Sync and TomTom mySports

When retracing a route to the start it follows digital ‘breadcrumbs’ left behind from your outgoing route. ie it retraces your steps rather than going ‘as the crow flies’. It is very comfortable and you won’t notice it after while. I’ve been wearing it all night and day for 7 months, so it had to be good in this area. Activity monitor On the negative side, like most optical HRMs, sometimes the TomTom did sometimes seem to take a little while to ‘get going’ and dial into to its normal accurate state. Normally you’re just warming up then hopefully! (Maybe not, I know you too well 🙂 ) Battery It’s another reason that you can leave your phone at home, with the added bonus of allowing you to keep an eye on your heart rate for each interval. With the slim, watch-like Withings Activité Pop, you get an amazing eight months per battery, a number that’s really hard to top.Smartphone notifications as of Sep 2016 are being worked on For Runner 2 & 3. Apparently it is complex to implement this over lots of smartphone types. There are no links to subscription services that stream music…think about it! You bought the TomTom to ditch that smartphone right!! 🙂 Special Features – Voice Coach As of 22/Sep2016 that link points to the Runner 2 manual. The link will be updated imminently at the TomTom end as the manual is not quite available. Price & Availability This is not the way I typically use a running watch. However I have to say that it is a nice and easy-to-use interface. It makes sense. Sometimes when you are exposed to a new piece of kit the interface is not intuitive. The Runner 2/Spark IS intuitive. TomTom’s Runner/Spark 3 is BY FAR the best value, best featured and most accurate device. There is just one catch…TomTom are withdrawing from the sports watch market. Somebody else mught buy the division and re-brand the devices but…who knows? The Alternatives.

Then there’s how it looks. More than a flimsy piece of silicone, the Microsoft Band is a thermal plastic health band with a full colour touch screen. This looks like an advanced device — and it is. Overall, it's a feature that the watch desperately needed, and we're glad that TomTom finally delivered. Verdict The strap can be removed from the main pod unit and the pod can be placed in a (separately available) bike mount.I’ve bought the Tomtom Adventurer because of the barometric altitude measurement. But altitudes aren’t correct. How can this be calibrated?

During an activity, the watch face displays the two measurements chosen in the activity settings at the bottom left and right. The main part of the display can be changed at any time, from all the usual pace, average pace, time, HR, distance and time of day. The buttons require a firm press to do anything, so it’s unlikely you’ll the wrong thing by accident. The RUNNER 3/SPARK 3 is best suited for a runner looking for a well featured and well-priced device that can also support forays into other single sports like cardio classes, cycling or swimming. It supports multiple, single sports but not multi-sport events like triathlon. The Spark 3 / Runner 3 does indeed contain a new GPS chip compared to the Runner 2/Spark. So further tests were definitely warranted by me on this device.” The step counter, compass and nav features are nice to have I suppose but personally a cadence sensor would have been more useful for me, and other runners i assume. The Graphical Training Partner, accessed by hitting the down button on the GPS calibration screen, will likely be the most-used feature of the watch, offering up four different modes: Zone, Race, Goal and Laps.Once you're plugged in though, the syncing is pretty straightforward. TomTom's offering up its own online MySports portal for collecting your data. This is pretty basic right now, though allows you to upload data to third party services such as RunKeeper.
