About this deal

Sky announces start of production in England for The Colour Room, a Sky Original". Sky. 17 March 2021 . Retrieved 11 April 2021. As well as Phoebe Dynevor, who will portray Clarice Cliff, the film features Kerry Fox, who plays her mother and Darci Shaw who plays her sister. Meanwhile, actor Matthew Goode plays factory owner Colley Shorter and David Morrissey portrays designer Fred Ridgeway. It is no surprise that Peate was keen to write this biopic, as Cliff is an inspiring figure in many ways. She became a star in her field at a time when it was exceptionally difficult for a woman to get ahead, and she had trailblazing ideas. She also played a significant role in revolutionising how pieces are sold by moving them out of the art fairs and galleries and taking them straight to the target customers.

Matthew says: "I didn’t know a huge amount about the story behind The Colour Room. I knew the name as I think my Aunty Eileen, who was my mother’s stepmother, had a teapot in her kitchen that was by Clarice. I remember the pattern but I didn’t know how influential she’d been on potteries and indeed in design, so it was quite thrilling to be a part of this. We’re very much in a time, thankfully, that things are changing for women in general: we suddenly have this poster child from the past. It’s very inspiring. I didn’t know anything about Colley Shorter, obviously, but that’s quite nice that he’s behind the scenes - it gives me slightly more leeway with how we wanted to go about portraying him. Although there is a romance it doesn't take over the story and Matthew Goode is a strong character passionate about his business and being bold. Phoebe Dynevor is a great Clarice Cliff. Despite resistance, Clarice Cliff persisted in suggesting her ideas while working on the factory floor in potteries. Instead of mastering one skill to improve her earnings, she started one apprenticeship as an enameller, and then another as a lithographer at another factory to learn different aspects of production. Although supporting her widowed mother and her sister, she risked destitution by changing jobs so often. All of the potteries still had Victorian perceptions of what women wanted in terms of design. Speaking on her role, Phoebe told Vogue: “Clarice Cliff is such a brilliant character to play in so many ways. She was a real working class woman, who had to fight so many obstacles to get to where she is. People now know her name all over the world and collect her pieces everywhere. Being able to make a film about the person behind all of these amazing designs was such a privilege." Is there a trailer for The Colour Room? So, there were two brothers, Guy and Colley and they had taken over their father’s business, which was Wilkinson’s, and they owned several factories. They had come to prominence, and their father was sort of a self-made man in the mid-nineteenth century when he started [the factory] and the boys took it over with varying degrees of success. Colley, my character, he’s about being bold and wants to take chances and risks because that’s how you grow a company, and Guy wasn’t, so they were at loggerheads. And when we join the film, a lot of factories are being closed down, the potteries are in trouble, and if you’re losing money, surely, you should concentrate on the old stuff that you know makes money.October 30, 2023 , Joel Fisher , No Comment Pigeon Shrine Halloween Frightfest Film Review – Maria (2023) For a film essentially about art, it inevitably has a strong visual appeal. The grime, dirt and danger of The Potteries is re-created to the extent that you can almost taste the dirt in your mouth right from the outset. And the smokiness of factories seeps into the interiors, especially the cramped houses where the workers, including Cliff’s family, live. Set against that as a living bolt of colour is the woman herself. It starts with a vibrant scarf and, as the film continues, extends into more of her clothes, as well as the glowing warmth of the paint she uses on her creations. As a woman she stands out as well, unconventional, deliberately wearing her hair in a bob and letting nothing, but nothing, stand in the way of her ambitions. Plenty of films have yet to make the hi-res journey to Blu-ray, but there are hundreds that never even made it to DVD. Empire has been digging, and we've exhumed these 25 movies never officially pressed onto a small, silver disc... to date. If you feel inclined, suggest your own lost treasures in the comments. She said: “We operate a day and date model and unfortunately those chains won’t agree to a day and date release, which is why they are not showing the film.” What’s the story? ***A prolific director of shorts for Saturday Night Live, Tom Schiller moved into features here, bringing several SNL alumni with him. It has still never been released and Schiller never directed a feature again. It revolves around Galligan living in a dystopian New York controlled by the Port Authority. He stumbles upon an underground network of tramps who secretly rule the world, and gets sent on a mission to the Moon in a bus with Bill Murray. John Belushi would also have been a part of the madness, but tragically died just a few weeks before filming started.

It's a wonderful opportunity to promote how ground-breaking Clarice Cliff was in her day, and encourage local children to follow in her footsteps in breaking down barriers. It's very disappointing that so few local children will get to see The Colour Room at the cinema, but we are grateful to the Mitchell Arts Centre for showing it." Elliott, Louise (2 April 2021). "First pictures from Gladstone Pottery as filming starts for The Colour Room starring Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor". Stoke Sentinel . Retrieved 11 April 2021. Here’s what we know so far about the one-off biopic The Colour Room on Sky Cinema… 'The Colour Room' release date...Ian Mood, of the Potteries Lunar Society, said: “We decided that we wanted to host a screening as soon as we found out that it wasn’t being shown anywhere in the area. We wanted to do it as a thank you to all the local artists and extras who took part, and as soon as we broached the idea the Mitchell Arts Centre and Caspian Films were more than happy to help. Really enjoyed the 20s feeling of the movie, the desire for Clarice to do what she loved and ignoring a bit what was around her to get there including the « rules » and what was right at the time. The scene in the modelling workshop are creating that atmosphere between the men and her, their respect of the rules and her creativity.
