The Recognition

Hannah Wyatt, MD for Factual Entertainment and Live Events, BBC Studios Productions comments: “It’s a huge honour to be covering this once in a lifetime occasion. Our Live Events production team are world class and continually innovate to ensure the coverage provides viewers with the best possible experience, from Ultra-high Definition (UHD) pictures to 5.1 surround sound enabling the audience to really feel like they’re part of this historic event.” Key Facts & Figures Charles R: The Making of a Monarch tells the story of King Charles III's more than seven decades as heir to the throne. During that period, every step of Charles' life was captured on camera and his words recorded: from newsreel to home movies from interviews to documentaries - both about him and by him. This sixty minute documentary brings together a wealth of material, much rarely seen or unseen.

Elizabeth rehearsed for the occasion with her maids of honour. A sheet was used in place of the velvet train, and a formation of chairs stood in for the carriage. She also wore the Imperial State Crown while going about her daily business – at her desk, during tea, and while reading a newspaper – so that she could become accustomed to its feel and weight. [15] Elizabeth took part in two full rehearsals at Westminster Abbey, on 22 and 29 May, [19] though some sources claim that she attended one or "several" rehearsals. [20] [21] The Duchess of Norfolk usually stood in for the Queen at rehearsals. [22] Westminster Abbey was closed for five months in preparation for the coronation. [23] Radio 3 will also be reflecting the music of the Coronation and the musical interests of The King in the week leading up to the Coronation and on the day itself. After she moved to stand before King Edward's Chair, Elizabeth turned, following as Fisher, along with the lord high chancellor of Great Britain, Lord Simonds; the lord great chamberlain of England, Lord Cholmondeley; lord high constable of England, Lord Alanbrooke; and the earl marshal of the United Kingdom, the duke of Norfolk; all led by Garter Principal King of Arms George Bellew. The archbishop of Canterbury asked the audience in each direction of the compass separately: "Sirs, I here present unto you Queen Elizabeth, your undoubted Queen: wherefore all you who are come this day to do your homage and service, are you willing to do the same?" The crowd would reply "God save Queen Elizabeth!" every time, [64] to each of which the Queen would curtsey in return. [61] We’ll be hearing from those people up and down the country whose lives have been touched by The King and the Queen Consort and looking ahead to the weekend with insights into what people can expect from the first ceremonial event of its kind in over 70 years. We are incredibly proud to be bringing this moment of major historical significance and celebration to viewers at home and internationally. Over the next nine days, with our coverage of the Coronation and then Eurovision, we will be delivering the biggest week of live programming since 2012. — Kate Phillips, BBC Director of Unscripted Thousands of events are expected to take place in every corner of the United Kingdom this May as people take to their streets, gardens, parks and community spaces to join the Coronation celebrations and mark this historic occasion.
