About this deal

In Adobe Premiere Pro, the Core i7-12700H is the fastest CPU that we've tested to date. The overall score puts both the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti configurations above the Apple M1 Pro, and well above previous generation processors. In particular, it dominates Ryzen and while the GPU is also faster than previous configurations, it's still a very impressive result. Windows 11 supports voice typing (accessed by Windows + H) and speech recognition (toggled with Windows + Ctrl + S). If the Intel® processors number includes letters such as HX, HK, H, U, P, G7, NG7, G4, G1, Y, HQ, or M in the product line suffix, then these processors are laptop processors. Refer to the comparison charts for Intel® Core™ Laptop Processor Family. Early indications from leaked performance data seem to indicate the flagship 12900K CPU has vastly improved multi-core performance, the area in which AMD has dominated for years now, at least at the higher-end SKUs. The AMD Ryzen 5950X has offered a multi-core intermediary between flagship gaming CPUs and the professional-grade workstation/server CPUs like the AMD Threadrippers and Intel Xeons, and it seems like Intel might be trying to compete at this level now with the Intel Core i9-12900. What’s new with 12th Gen Intel Core processors?

Integrated graphics are not so great at handling demanding PC games, though. While these integrated Intel graphics processors will let you play some recent games at low quality and resolution settings (how well varies significantly by the game), you will definitely need a discrete graphics card from AMD or Nvidia to play 3D games at 1080p, 1440p, or 4K resolutions with the quality settings turned up. Nor are integrated solutions the best choice for tasks that demand GPU acceleration in addition to CPU muscle, such as certain specialized, heavy rendering and scientific applications. This is achieved without consuming more single-thread power than other x86 processors, though the Arm-based M1 Pro is significantly more efficient. Supports faster frequencies and higher bandwidth and throughput leading to enhanced workflow and productivity.

However at 75W, the 12700H is able to pull ahead of the field. While just 3% faster than the 5800H at 45W, it's now a very solid 22% faster, owing to Alder Lake's great scalability up to higher power levels. So if you do get a laptop with the cooling power to handle higher long term power, the 12700H is the way to go. With "Alder Lake," Intel is dispensing with TDP as a measure of power or thermals. The processor now comes with two monikers you should be aware of, the Processor Base Power value, which is set at 125 W, and Maximum Turbo Power value, which is 190 W for the i7-12700K. Several power levels span the two, but what's relevant is that you can get the processor to run at its maximum turbo power value indefinitely. Max Turbo Frequency refers to the maximum single-core processor frequency that can be achieved with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology. See www.intel.com/technology/turboboost/ for more information and applicability of this technology. All models support up to DDR5-4800 or DDR4-3200 memory, and 16 lanes of PCI Express 5.0 + 4 lanes of PCIe 4.0. Cyberpunk 2077 was tested using the medium quality preset and at 1080p we see a reasonably large performance difference between the various memory configurations. The DDR4-2400 gear two configuration completely brakes performance as simply switching to gear 1 boosted the average frame rate by 41%. Intel Turbo Boost Technology Frequency Table – 5th Generation Intel Core i7 Desktop Processors". Intel. March 18, 2016 . Retrieved April 21, 2016.

Matlab is a short, burst workload that's sensitive to things like cache and memory. Intel was already the fastest in this benchmark with 11th-gen, so 12th-gen only pushes their lead further ahead. Color Filters, including inverted, grayscale, red-green, and blue-yellow, can be toggled with Windows + Ctrl + C. Contrast themes are toggled with Alt + Left Shift + Print Screen. Standard Dark Mode and custom colors are also available under Personalization. If we compared one chip at 75W to another at 60W, we'd really only be comparing which specific laptop design can send the most power to the CPU, not which CPU actually performs better, which is why we test like this. Boost PL2 power is set to Intel's default of 115W in both instances. Rich media and intelligent integrated graphics capabilities enable amplified visual complexity, enhanced 3D performance and faster image processing. The final compute workload we'll look at is Agisoft Metashape's photogrammetry benchmark, where Alder Lake is again the chart topping configuration. Performance gains here aren't as strong as previous Adobe suite tests, but we're still seeing at least a 10 percent performance gain over the next best configuration tested which is a respectable result. Power Consumption

All models support: SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX, AVX2, FMA3, Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST), Intel 64, XD bit (an NX bit implementation), Intel VT-x, Intel VT-d, Hyper-threading, Turbo Boost 3.0 (2.0 for embedded), AES-NI, Smart Cache, Thread Director, DL Boost, GNA 3.0, and Optanememory. Compared to Intel's previous Core i7 model, the 11800H, we're looking at 20-30% higher performance at the default 45W power level in productivity apps, and 30-40% better performance in the higher 75W power configuration that some OEMs use. When you browse through the available laptops, you will find different processors – i3, i5, i7, and i9. In this section we will be talking about the Core processors and not the entry-level Celeron and Pentium ones. To know which one is right for you, we will explain each type in brief. For productivity-centric users, the answer however is much more clearer. The 13700K has considerably more clout with about 33% gains in multicore benchmarks. That translates to faster performance for users attempting to run workloads that utilize multithreaded, multicore-based workloads with considerable throughput required (such as rendering tools, programming suites, and development tools).

Simply put, a Core i5-equipped system will be less expensive than a Core i7-equipped PC, if all else is equal. But in most cases, if you're comparing apples to apples (that is, a desktop chip to a desktop chip, or a laptop chip to a laptop chip, and the same generation to the same generation), the Core i5 will have fewer, or dialed-down, capabilities. A Core i7 will typically be better for multitasking, media-editing and media-creation tasks, high-end gaming, and similar demanding workloads. Often, though, the price difference will be small, so it's worth playing around with the online configurator of whatever PC you're buying to see if you can afford a Core i7-powered machine. With DDR4 memory you ideally want to use gear 1 as you'd need to run the memory up around DDR5 speeds to offset the increased latency. With DDR4-2400, we're looking at a 40% increase in latency when switching from gear 1 to gear 2, and this is going to crippled performance in memory sensitive tasks, such as gaming. As mentioned above, big/Little architecture is also stylized as big.LITTLE architecture or in various other forms, is a CPU architecture developed by ARM Holdings to maximize efficiency in computer processors, which is used in Intel Alder Lake chips. In layman’s terms, there are two separate core types within the CPU: P-cores or performance cores (the big), and E-cores or efficiency cores (the little). P-cores tend to come with two threads per core, whereas E-cores usually just have a single thread each.
