This miniature version of the larger and more expensive 71040 Disney Castle is a great alternative for LEGO fans on a budget, and for any type of Disney fan. While its normal colour scheme has remained fairly consistent since 1971, Cinderella Castle is periodically decorated to celebrate certain occasions. That sometimes involves golden accents, although this concentration of pearl gold appears unusual. Nevertheless, I think the colours are attractive here, beginning across the bridge and continuing under the archway where the raised portcullis is visible.

There’s no faulting the colour choices, either, which reflect last year’s repainting of the real-life castle for Cinderella’s 70th anniversary, and the decorations applied for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary. The build was surprisingly long, and kept me engaged throughout, and I had fun seeing the Castle come together. Here’s a look at the entrance and the doors – you can see golden spikes inside the arch which is a nice touch. With so many large-scale releases in 2021, the year has actually been an excellent year for LEGO fans on a budget, or if you’re like me, with little to no room left for massive 4-digit piece sets.There are some fiddly bits as you’re building mostly with small elements, but I did enjoy the techniques that made this unique shape possible.
