About this deal

I picked the big silver one up a while back in the classifieds and it really does have loads of squish. Designed to emulate the famed Ross analog comps from the 1980s, Joyo's rendition gives a subtle flavoring to your sound that even the most ardent of anti-pedal proponents can get behind. Our expert team will guide you with gear reviews, lessons and advice to help make your guitar life a little easier and more enjoyable. So essentially there's two sides to this fella – on one hand, it keeps your sonic peaks under control and secures a well-rounded sound even if you strum too hard at moments. The Joyo will put your sound under control in a natural and organic way, without sounding artificial or plastic like some other cheap pedals tend to.

Constructed with a three-knob interface consisting of controls for sustain, level, and attack, a low noise floor, and a nuanced presence that complements rather than consumes your tone, the Joyo Dyna Compressor is a vintage effect in a modern world. What I really don't understand setting sustain 3 o'clock and level 9 o'clock give less compression than setting level on 12. A compressor allows you to play delicately picked passages with masses of effects and you'll hear every note perfectly without any of them dissapearing into the ether or overpowering the others. It is very low everything, low ratio(I'm not sure it is constant), low speed, low output (unless you max sustain knob). If playing with a little bit more distortion, you'll find the pedal makes your riffs a little more prominent and clearer. haha I mean I think I have a reasonable handle on what compression is, how it works and what it's for, and the joyo one is definitely in the subtle camp (or at least a lot more subtle than, say, a boss cs3). Level – As an obligatory part of pretty much every guitar pedal we can think of, the Level knob – also know as Mix of Volume – controls the level of the given effect that gets injected into the audio mix. A compressor allows you to play delicately picked passages with masses of effects and you'll hear every note perfectly without any of them disappearing into the ether or overpowering the others.

However you choose to use your compressor you'll be pleased with the JF-10, it is an excellent value compressor, worth every penny. This is a true bypass pedal, meaning that the stompbox does not produce a single sound or a hint of noise when connected and not turned on. I have never owned a compression pedal before but being a player who leans towards the funk style I felt it would be a good addition. It's footprint seems slightly larger than your average pedal, and you'll have to rip off the rubber bottom if you want to velcro it to your board. it does the job very well, I leave it on the whole time, it's tonally transparent and doesn't suck too much unless you really turn up the attack. Read more about the condition New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is applicable).

The JF-10 Dyna compressor pedal is at the lower end of the scale, but is robustly built and has a picture of a scorpion on the front. Sustain – This knob controls the length of your notes essentially, or how long they will hold on after being strummed. The green scorpion beast comes in a sturdy metal casing that can take more than a few punches and heavy stomps, yet retains a light weight and compact size. Audio controls are fair, durability and reliability are high, and who doesn't like a feisty Scorpio? Many associate it with loudness wars and pop music, but it is actually a very useful effect that makes your guitar tone more on-point and more pleasant to every ear. Apparently it works better with a stronger signal into the input and I might yet try this out of curiosity. I'm not saying I'll never go for another compressor in the future but as someone who has never owned one before (I have played many others though) it is a great first step.

As you can spot it is a Ross Compressor clone; as I marked in RED the changes they made to the schematic.

Overall, these are seemingly subtle, yet essential traits of a good sound, and you should not underestimate them in favor of some flashy effects. I've tried a few comps, digital and analog and have a little collection, but I keep coming back to the boss cs3. The build quality is good and it feels very solid with its metal casing, and who doesn't like a green guitar pedal with a scorpion on it? We're looking at a simple layout that's easy to control – just a set of three knobs, an on/off switch, mono In and mono Out, and a LED status indicator.
