Ben Channon is an architect, author, TEDx speaker and mental wellbeing advocate, and is well known in the industry as a thought leader in designing for happiness and wellbeing.I found that developers and operators were becoming increasingly interested in the wellbeing of their residents –albeit this was mainly physical, rather than mental wellbeing.

Ben’s book shows us how deeply affected by our environments we are and describes the important steps and considerations needed to design effectively for wellbeing.Happy by Design reveals how architecture and design can make us happy and support mental health, and explain/show poor design can have the opposite effect. Lighter colors will give you maximum reflective powers, and a glossy finish can add extra luminosity. Ben is a passionate author and has used writing to champion better design for wellbeing, as well as to improve mental health within the architectural industry itself. This is often the first piece of advice I give people when they ask what one thing they should do to make their home a better place to spend time in.

Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. The book explores how lighting, temperature, access to nature, exercise and social interaction can affect how we feel. As somebody who thinks and learns in a visual way, these books really spoke to me and I wanted to recreate some of this feel to share with readers in Happy by Design. For those seeking to start from the ground up, ‘Happy by Design’ contains layout guidance, room proportions and positioning to make sure that homes are happy, from the front door to the roof tiles. It reveals how architecture and design can make us happy and support mental health, and explains how poor design can have the opposite effect.

Thank you for your comment – I wrote this article, however, the author of the Happy by Design guide is Ben Channon. A new social and ecological prerogative demands appropriate material choices, a re-invention of construction and evolving building programmes that look at lifecycle, embodied energy and energy use. Ben is a passionate advocate of improving mental health within architecture, and has worked hard to change the working culture and practices in the industry, both in the UK and abroad. If either is the case in your home, don’t worry: Pick one of these window treatments that still allow the daylight in. To avoid a climate catastrophe and achieve a regenerative built environment, the use of new materials and any excess waste in resources need to be cut out from the very beginning of the design process. This guide is designed to help students understand what a 'site analysis' is and why it is valuable to their design proposals, this book provides 100 easy-to-follow rules of thumb with simple line drawings and illustrations to help. When I redecorated my bathroom, I wanted to replace the roller blinds, which were cutting into the window space, so I installed a window film with a subtle metallic finish instead. Clever window film Window film is a great, low-cost choice for screening a window while still letting natural light through. Having carved out a reputation as an industry expert on this subject, he is now in high demand on panel discussions, podcasts, at major corporations and for university lectures.
