I did love seeing Rafe pre-Isa in this book and how Calix said that once he gets her he will understand. Adelaide Forrest - It has been an absolutely hectic, incredible, and daunting two weeks since the release of What Lies Beyond the Veil. I loved Calix’s unrepentant obsession with Thalia and the way he was both a caretaker and demanding. This ends on a cliffhanger but not a terribly bad one and this also contains the prequel to their story that follows the years that Calix was taken from Thalia and the abuse she survived at the hands of her family. This story sucks you in from the first page and won't let you go until the last page (and even then that's debatable 😍). Christian gives me weird vibes and I’m not sure if I think he is genuine or not, I think calix was harsh to brand his hand for grabbing Thalia but I get why he feels he needs to be so harsh given how he previous lost Thalia.At one point she makes it clear that she is not ready/willing to have a child with him yet and that she wants birth control and his response is to cuff her to his bed and forcefully inseminate her multiple times over a 24 hour period without letting her up for any reason. And all of this was coming from a place of protectiveness, not because she would be his future wife but because she was a little girl and she didn’t deserve the cruel life she was living. Cálix as an adult is hard because he was a nice boy but the trauma he went through because of what his dad did changed him into something else. One Sentence Synopsis: Calix swore to protect Thalia and he intends on keeping that promise as well as getting his revenge.
