This is the deck that taught me the deeper occult, alchemical, astrological, kabbalistic and magickal meanings and uses for the tarot.

The magnificent Crowley Thoth Tarot Deck contains the kabbalistic and astrological attributions described in Aleister Crowley's The Book of Thoth. The first publication made around 1944 was made in black and white, until in 1969 the publications appeared in two colors, and always maintaining the abstract surrealist style. It comes with a very small and basic book/guide and a large poster sized guide to a spread (appears to be Celtic cross spread).

Very little is said about reading the cards themselves, though it does give a spread that seems more intuitive than ones I've seen before. I would strongly recommend this Thoth Tarot for those who are mature enough to explore further the structures of the universal psyche. Since its initial publication in 1969 it has attracted a steady stream of acclaim for its striking beauty, as well as its depiction of an understanding of occult knowledge that was gained over a lifetime of devoted study.

One of the differences between the Thoth deck, and other well known decks such as the Rider Waite Smith, Marseille or Golden Dawn decks is the court cards. The 78 cards were painted by Lady Frieda Harris according to instructions from the occult scholar, Aleister Crowley. The smaller sizes are a very comfortable shuffle and the images do not suffer unduly from the reduced size. Although I don't think the OTO and this branch of magick is quite for me, and there are quite a few of the minor acrana cards I don't care for, this is still a must-have deck for serious readers and collectors.
