To me, this complete change of direction feels like a cop-out of sorts; a departure from the original topic. I obviously had empathy for Lauren when it came to her husband and the fear she would have felt over losing her babies, but you can have sympathy for a situation even if you don’t like the person.

Her Mum is a very famous model, and her Dad is an incredible singer, who is extremely famous world wide. Destiny lives an ordinary life with her loving Mum, going to High School, facing bullies and doing her dreaded homework.I was very impressed by how this novel captures the struggles of early motherhood – from the simple things of trying to pack a nappy bag and get babies ready to go for a walk to the massive, massive psychological change you go through when you become a mother. Sunset tries to convince Danny that Destiny is his daughter, but he insists it is a lie to get money and attention from the media. Instead, her flagrant and unnecessary penchant for rule-breaking mars this image and makes it difficult to take her seriously.

Little Darlings is a book that everyone can relate to and the descriptions used by Wilson help to create a cognitive visual of the story. In terms of this being a mystery thriller, the story actually takes quite a predictable path, so what you think is happening at the start is exactly what it turns out to be, however, it’s also ambiguous and leaves the reader asking questions. In places its not aged well but mostly it's just because this is a children's book and the family dynamics in this book hit hard in places.Sunset lives in a glamorous home with a rock star dad and ex-model mum but still she is not happy and Destiny lives in a bunch of grotty old flats with her gorgeous mum but still she is not happy. Destiny shows her awesome singing talent when she sings Danny's song "Destiny" and is given the last act, being the best talent. Double Act won the prestigious Smarties Medal and the Children’s Book Award as well as being highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. However, these encounters can easily be explained away by the postpartum depression Lauren is clearly experiencing.
