About this deal

Angel for sure uses The Ark for escapism and for a sense of belonging, and we get to see the good, the bad, and all the in-between moments.

Indeed, my favourite part of the novel was the intelligent discussion of fandom, which sits at the novel’s very core. With the new possibilities for the band, his attacks are worse and the pressure which lies on him like an elephant makes it so much worse that he even considers to stop making music to stay sane. And while she has moments of crossing boundaries, the way the narrative both empathizes with her and critiques her behavior found me caring for her anyway. And how it is okay to say no, or take time for yourself, especially when you are uneasy about something. The cherry on top is that her best friend Juliet, whom she met online, has meet and greet tickets and they will see each other for real for the very first time. Courtesy of the fine folks at iam8bit, JOURNEY at long last receives a proper 2-LP vinyl release with fantastic new artwork by Mark Englert.

How you can go on and on about your favorite topics, and express yourself to your friends on the internet in a way that may be very hard for you to do in real life. When I closed the last page of this book, I had a million more questions than the entire time while reading. Now moving on to characters, now by this time you all might know how much I love Alice Oseman and one of the main reasons for that is how come she creates such likeable and realistic characters everytime! Her family members, especially her mother, think it’s just a phase and chastise her obsession, but Angel stands strong in her love of the band.

The way Alice Oseman captured fandoms, showed the lives of musicians and represented anxiety was amazing and as always her character cast was super diverse. The novel, by 27-year-old author and illustrator of the sensationally popular (for good reason) Heartstopper series of graphic novels, follows teenage fangirl Fereshteh (who goes by her online alias of Angel) and the object of her affections, Jimmy Kaga-Ricci, one-third of the sensationally popular boy band The Ark (which, while fictional, certainly finds a few parallels in the real world). So many YA novels point out clearly when a character is not white and British, however Angel’s faith was blended in to the story so well. The beloved Heartstopper characters Nick and Charlie find themselves at a crossroads when Nick heads off to university. As the characters confront their personal flaws and the changing world around them, the readers get a sober look into how serious and fraught teenage lives can be with such high stakes.
