About this deal

Clearly this lacks insight to see how damaging that actually is to their child and Claire and was instead used as a convenient tension plot point. I was extremely invested in this story and the characters which usually isn't a thing for me when it comes to traditionally published romances.

It’s very kind to its characters, allowing them plenty of scope to be as complicated and as damaged as they need to be, while simultaneously letting them shine in their relationships with each other, their deep needs to love and be loved. Having sung the praises of AHB's MG and YA titles for so many years now, nobody is more disappointed than me to say that this book was a struggle. It hadn't, but it had given Delilah an idea for a photo series that had changed her ambition from struggling freelance photographer who barely made rent to successful queer artist with an amazing apartment in Williamsburg. delilah isn't an easy character to like, especially at the beginning, but i guess she had some leftover trauma and harsh feelings to process before she could become the character the author intended her to be at the end of the story. That half-bewildered, half-alienated sense of watching your heterosexual friends make terrible romantic decisions with other heterosexuals, wondering to yourself are the straights all right, and is there anything you can do about it. I don't think this would be an issue for the majority of readers, but once I noticed the lack of the word lesbian in a book where the main character is a lesbian, I couldn't stop noticing it. Along with the money, which Astrid almost certainly knew Delilah couldn't refuse, Astrid had also delivered an oh-so-subtly manipulative, "Mom says your father would've wanted you at my wedding. Bottom line: You may be tempted to cancel me for this take, but just remember - YOU LIKE ME FOR MY UNPOPULAR OPINIONS! Okay, fine, there might have been several unanswered texts in Delilah's messages, but in her defense, she was a useless sack of skin lately, with another month's rent looming and preparing for the Fitz show, at which her work only appeared because she knew the owner, Rhea Fitz, a former fellow waitress whose dead grandmother left her enough money to open her own gallery.

I put this book off for so long because it was one of my most anticipated romances of 2022 and I was afraid of disappointment, this book exceeded all my expectations.Delilah Green Doesn't Care is the dreamy, steamy, utterly satisfying answer to your craving for an outcast-and-former-mean-girl romance. For Delilah, there is internal conflict related to how she perceives herself due to the ill treatment of her step mother. Instinctively, Claire's hands went to Delilah's waist, fingers curling through the cotton of her shirt. While I love small town romances I'm not always a fan of the ways in which they ask characters (often women) to give up certain passions or wants - it's why Emily Henry's Book Lovers is such a triumph - but Delilah Green Doesn't Care thankfully doesn't fall into that trap.

That's all okay anyway, because my secret is that I don't actually read romance for the romance - I read it for the sweet kind nice characters finding and liking THEMSELVES. Blake's well-crafted adult debut Delilah Green Doesn't Care combines everything you could want in a sapphic romance--snark, steam and sweetness--with an intricate exploration of what it means to love someone and how we choose to show it, all spearheaded by its unforgettable protagonist Delilah who you'll simultaneously want to be and be with forever. All of the other characters are one-dimensional and unlikeable, I think Iris is meant to be that sharp, raw honest friend and character that you somehow love for telling it like it is, but she was grating and not at all clever. I was also happy to see that Berkley keeps putting out new sapphic books and I hope they continue since they have all been enjoyable. The finger on Delilah’s chin slid to her jaw, then Claire’s whole hand skated across her face, to her neck, and around to her nape.

The sister’s confrontation and reconciliation moments with Delilah and Astrid lacked emotional punch and true, deep self-reflection. In the end, Delilah slowly redeemed herself a little bit for me, but it took a very long time to get there and I still wasn't a huge fan by the time I reached the last page. claire, too, had her little flaws, but i saw a lot of myself in her, especially on things concerning her bisexuality and motherhood. She'd sold a piece or two, sure, but her photography was niche, as one agent had told her while declining to represent her, and niche wasn't an easy sell. After you take a moment to take in this gorgeous cover, you're going to want to immediately pick up this debut. Not the type of Rom com novel where you have to wait to the last two chapters for the characters to even kiss. Iris was still petty and rude and mean towards her even tho she didn't even fucking do anything this time except simply exist. I’ve already got myself a copy of Iris Kelly’s, and I’m sure that after I finish it, I’ll move onto Astrid’s.
