I explained that the only places where you should undress is a bathroom or bedroom or some other private area. Now that my children are married off and work elsewhere we, at our older age (both 50+) feel free to enjoy ourselves as we wish. Nikki and I easily fell into conversation with a number of people throughout the day: a sales manager at Costco who was wearing only a boater (hats were big at Desert Shadows); a neatly-coiffed real estate agent from Connecticut who looked like Harriet of “Ozzie and Harriet”; and a handsome financier from Pebble Beach, California, by way of Russia…. Palm trees, pools, tennis courts, bars, restaurants – the resort was like any swanky beach-side getaway, except this one was full of naked people.

Although, when you wade back to a crowded beach from the water, it’s a lot harder to spot your group.I personally have a healthy respect for clothes and their functionality, yet I have also visited a nudist beach or two in my day. I went to Avalon in northern West Virginia this past June with my girlfriend, this was the first time for both of us. It’s hard to read the expressions on the faces of mask wearers, but I knew the two women walking together on the opposite side of the street were smiling at me and my dog: We’ve had plenty of pre-coronavirus encounters that involved friendly salutations. I found it hard not to giggle nervously during our tour of the beautifully landscaped grounds, and when Nikki and I got into our villa – more upscale motel than luxury resort style, but immaculate and featuring a large kitchen, Jacuzzi tub, and wonderful outdoor shower – we let out a few tension-releasing laughs.

From the instant we emerged from our caravan, dozens of men and their partners started to approach us. When we became a little older, I think around 7 or 8, we got some basic sexual education and ethics, zo we just went nude when ok and privat.
