About this deal

His name (and Dumbledore's) come from a passage in chapter 20 of the Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy. "Hag-rids" (as it is in the Mayor of Casterbridge) referred to indigestion.

It is possible that Hagrid was close with Ron and Hermione's daughter, Rose Granger-Weasley and their son Hugo Granger-Weasley, as he was planning to have tea with Harry's son, Albus, in 2017.The wedding of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour is the following day, so Hagrid stays overnight; however, The Burrow is far too full to allow him any place to stay, so he sets up a tent in a neighboring field. He is mentioned briefly as, just before the wedding, he mistakes where he is meant to sit and crushes an entire row of folding chairs, before being shown the reinforced bench which was intended for him.

Hagrid always stoutly defended Severus Snape against Harry's doubts and allegations, on the basis that Albus Dumbledore trusted Snape completely. When Snape killed Dumbledore, Hagrid initially disbelieved the fact and told Harry he must be mistaken but was later furious to learn that Snape had indeed killed the late Headmaster. Hagrid openly opposed Snape when he became the Headmaster of Hogwarts by holding a Support Harry Potter party (unaware Snape was secretly still on their side), an act which almost resulted in his arrest and forced him to go into hiding until the final battle. Before Hagrid fled, Snape put students in detentions with Hagrid, ensuring that they were protected from the harsher and torturous punishments from the Carrows. However, Hagrid eventually learned of Snape's true loyalties during the final confrontation of the Battle of Hogwarts. Snape, on the other hand, defected from Voldemort, and Hagrid defended him whenever Harry, Ron and Hermione criticised him, except when he temporarily believed that Snape had betrayed Dumbledore at the Astronomy Tower.

HARRY! NO! NO! NO! HARRY, WHAT'RE YEH –?" — Hagrid's horror at seeing Harry sacrifice himself to Voldemort [src] It is when the Skrewts have destroyed their nesting boxes, and Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Hagrid are finishing rounding them up, that Rita Skeeter appears and asks Hagrid for an interview. Hagrid will later report that, annoyingly, the interview seemed to be all about Harry, and had nothing to do with anything Hagrid was doing. Around Hallowe'en, Hagrid prepared pumpkins in his patch to be used for the Hallowe'en feast, but they were accidentally destroyed by a Blast-Ended Skrewt went rogue. The students then sought to replant the pumpkins without letting Hagrid know, and after they succeeded, they revealed the big pumpkins to him. After the feast, Hagrid was playing the flute in his hut when he was heard by the unidentified student, and they played together. The students also talked to him about their dream of finding Hagrid having disappeared, and he assured them he would always be at Hogwarts. [34] Hagrid acts as guard for the Weasley family and Harry as they visit Diagon Alley to shop for school supplies. Harry is very pleased to see him, particularly as the alternative would be a squad of Aurors. the rest of it is quite plain but where this is all about the umbrella and the design in that the handle – it’s fine to be quite plain

Throughout the year, Hagrid and Olympe Maxime, the half-giantess headmistress of Beauxbatons, had a budding romantic relationship, which included dancing during the Yule Ball. Hagrid confided in her his life story, revealing to her that he is a half-giant, assuming her to be one as well because of her massive size. She was offended by the insinuations that she was part giant, and left him heartbroken. [29] Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, Year 7, Chapter 19 ( St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries) Hagrid is present for Harry's birthday, wearing his best, hairy, horrible suit, and gives him a Mokeskin bag. This is used for valuables; things placed in it can only be retrieved by the owner. Harry will use it to keep a number of objects which he feels are valuable throughout the book.Another Weasley, eh?... I spent half me life chasin' yer twin brothers away from the Forest!" — Hagrid to Ron when they first met [src] Albus Dumbledore placed great trust in Hagrid, which Hagrid returned with fierce loyalty and unwavering admiration. This loyalty always flared up whenever someone insulted Dumbledore, one time causing Hagrid to give Dudley Dursley a pig's tail, and causing him to choke Igor Karkaroff another time. Hagrid would often describe Dumbledore as a "great man". My dad was broken-hearted when she wen'. Tiny little bloke, my dad was. By the time I was six I could lift him up an' put him on top o' the dresser if he annoyed me. Used ter make him laugh..." — Hagrid telling Olympe Maxime about his father [src]
